What is PLA?
PLA filament, or Polylactic Acid, is a biodegradable thermoplastic material manufactured from renewable resources such as corn starch, cassava roots or sugarcane.
How tough is PLA?
PLA is extremely brittle. "Tough PLA" is typically created by adding other polymers into the PLA which lower its stiffness and increase its fracture toughness
We also use other materials in 3D printing such as
PLA+ - Created with the same process of PLA but hanced with additives to improve its strength
TPU - Stands for Thermoplastic Polyurethane, Unlike PLA, TPU is flexible and has rubber-like elasticity, with the strength of plastics such as PLA
PLA-CF - Is PLA plastic with which has Carbon Fibre infused into it giving it a much stronger contruct and the ideal material for making functional parts.
